Gas fireplace repair in Los Angeles

The pilot lights, then dies the moment you release the knob. Or the wall switch clicks and nothing happens. Or the flame burns lazy and yellow and leaves black film on the glass. Those are different faults. Each gets diagnosed a different way.

Standing-pilot units make their own electricity. The thermopile sits in the pilot flame and generates millivolts that hold the main valve open. Soot, corrosion, or a drifting pilot flame drops that output. We read it under load, with the valve pulling, not at rest. Spiders and mud daubers nest in pilot tubes and burner orifices here; a plugged tube mimics a dead valve. Cleaning and re-aiming the pilot hood fixes more units than parts do.

Gas log retrofits into 1920s-1950s masonry boxes bring their own problem. The damper must be clamped permanently open. Plenty we see are rusted or painted shut instead. In unlined pre-1930 brick chimneys common to bungalows and Spanish-style homes, gas flue gases condense and work on the mortar. That's a relining conversation, not a burner one.

Sealed direct-vent inserts fail differently. Gasket rope flattens, glass loses its seal, and the coaxial termination clogs or rusts through on coastal chases. Soot on a direct-vent glass means a combustion air problem, not dirt.

Obsolete valves and discontinued log sets are the usual reason we say replace instead of repair.

What happens after you call

  1. 1

Call and tell us what the fireplace is doing, or not doing. We book a two-hour window and text you when the tech leaves, so you are not guessing all day.

  2. 2

The tech walks the firebox and roof first, then hands you a firm number before a brush comes out. The free estimate depends on flue type, cap or spark arrestor replacement, and creosote buildup.

  3. 3

We sweep, make the repair, run a draft test to confirm it pulls, then vacuum the hearth and take the drop cloths with us. You pay the quoted figure, and anything we find gets approved by you first.
